A ROOM WITH A VIEW: The History behind Hale's Harley-Davidson
At Hale’s Harley-Davidson, we’re not just a destination for motorcycle enthusiasts—we’re a dealership surrounded by history, mystery, and an unforgettable view.
Located just one mile from the Ohio State Reformatory (OSR) in Mansfield, Ohio, our shop sits in the shadow of one of the most famous and haunted prisons in the country. Originally built in the late 1800s, OSR housed thousands of inmates until its closure in 1990. Since then, it has become a cultural landmark, featured in The Shawshank Redemption, Scariest Places on Earth, and Eric Church's "Some of It" music video.
But the history doesn’t stop there. After OSR shut down, the Mansfield Correctional Institution was built right next to Hale’s Harley-Davidson. This gave inmates the ultimate "Room With A View"—a direct line of sight to our dealership. Our legendary T-shirt design was inspired by this eerie reality, reminding visitors that while they’re browsing new Harleys, they might just have an audience watching from behind the fence.
